Justin McDowell in Passing Away In Pixels:

I think it’s worth considering how the friends your friends don’t know about can get news of your passing. With that in mind, here are some ideas I have if you’d like to do the same thing.

It's not a nice topic to talk about, but it's important to think about it. There are many nice people that I almost only connect through some form of digital communication, and it is impossible for the ones I trust around me to notify all of them. Most likely they will have different things in their mind anyway, then to take care of my digital legacy. It's like your will, you most likely don't want to spend time on it, but at some point it might be to late.

Justin continues:

What should happen to your website? Do you want a memorial posted somewhere on it? […] Are you setting aside some money to keep this going, or would you prefer it be shut down and archived privately?

We are living in a world where you will probably outlive most websites, but if you are one of the fews who care about preserving your content: make a plan and set it in motion. Don't wait until someone else might miss you… and your content.
